Guinea pigs are very clean pets and are very particular about hygiene. Therefore they need to be supplied with fresh water (which must be changed at least daily), and everyday the remains of uneaten food must be removed. At least once a week cage should be cleansed thoroughly.
Claw trimming , bathing , and grooming is also very important. For example, nails should not be longer than 1 cm or it may cause degeneration of finger joints . Therefore, they should be cut regularly. Special clippers that might be purchased at a pet store are helpful in that regard. Before clipping, claws should be treated by a special disinfectant liquid. Trimming claws should be done at a right angle. This will prevent your pet from accidental damage of the blood vessels.
While guinea pigs do not like baths , once in a while you should refresh their fur . Use a very gentle shampoo that is dedicated to those animals . Shortly after bathing guinea pig you need to carefully wipe their fur or dry it in hot air.
Combing is also very important. In the case of long-haired guinea pigs , this procedure is one of the daily duties . For combing soft brush with natural nylon or wire hair gets best results. It is worth noting that combing is not only care treatment , but also relax for your pet.
